
Educational support groups are free and open to both OCC shelter residents and the community. Referrals from schools, juvenile courts, and other community agencies are encouraged. All groups are held either at the OCC Training Center in Hot Springs or at our Arkadelphia Office. Snacks and supper are served in the after-school and summer programs.
Active Parenting (incorporating Conscious Discipline) Educational program that incorporates two evidence-based curriculums to help parents, guardians, or grandparents of children of all ages. This class runs for 6 weeks total. |
Anger Management Educational and interactive program that provides relaxation techniques and coping skills, along with teaching how to recognize anger and other emotions. This class is for youth ages 13 – 17 and runs for 5 weeks total. |
The Council for Boys and Young Men Strengths-based approach to promote healthy development for boys, and addresses the physical, emotional, and relationship aspects of manhood. Also includes evidence-based reproductive health curriculum. This class is for youth ages 13 – 17 and runs for 5 weeks total. |
Getting Ahead for Youth This is an asset-based model that uses three “R Rules” to help teens to identify resources to help build resilience, and also discover individual academic and career plans. This class is for youth ages 13 – 17 and runs for 18 weeks total. |
Girls’ Circle Encourages girls in the development of courage, confidence, honesty and communication skills. Also includes evidence-based reproductive health curriculum. This class is for youth ages 13 – 17 and runs for 5 weeks total. |
Let’s Talk: A Runaway Prevention Program An evidence-based, interactive curriculum intended to educate young people about alternatives to running away as well as life skills to resolve problems without resorting to running away or unsafe behavior. This class runs for 10 weeks total. |
Open Minds: A Drug & Alcohol Recovery Class An educational, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) based program to aid freedom from addiction, improve thinking skills so the youth can make smarter choices. This class is for youth ages 13 – 17 and runs for 10 weeks total. |
Street Law An educational program created by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) to educate youth about the causes and consequences of various crimes, help them see the impact of his or her actions, and develop ideas for the repairs that he or she could make. This class runs for 10 weeks total. |
The Truth About Drugs An interactive and educational program that gives the facts about drugs, and how to stay safe in our drug-laden culture. This class runs for 5 weeks total. |
