This is a one mile, non-competitive walk to benefit Ouachita Children’s Center (OCC). Trash Bag Walk participants will begin at the Transportation Depot and walk round trip to Grand Avenue via the Greenway. They will be carrying a trash bag that contains a suitcase which will be donated to Garland County CASA after the walk. Why a trash bag? Many youth in crisis who are helped by OCC arrive with a few belongings that have been hastily thrown into a trash bag. No permanence. No dignity. The Trash Bag Walk will raise awareness of this humiliating reality. Participants will also seek sponsors to help raise funds to support OCC’s work with youth in crisis.
Interested in being a Trash Bag Walk participant? Here’s what you do: Register ($15 before April 9th, $20 after) – set a fund raising goal and get sponsors to sponsor you – bring a new or gently used suitcase – check in at the Transportation Depot (100 Broadway Terrace, Hot Springs) between 4:30 pm and 5:15 pm – place your donated suitcase in the trash bag you receive – when the Walk begins, walk on the Greenway from the Transportation Depot to Grand Avenue and back – conclude by enjoying the Celebration Awards Ceremony in the Transportation Depot Meeting Room!
Participants will set their fund raising goal: Gold level - $1,000; Silver level - $500; Bronze level - $250; Copper - $100. Sponsorships must be received by April 12th. This is a benefit event for OCC’s emergency shelter and support services for youth in crisis.
